Biography
Professor de Courten is a Global Public Health expert with substantial experience in interventions ranging from the pathophysiology of non-communicable diseases, clinical trials, community-based programs to international government policies for chronic disease control. His research focus is Global Health and chronic disease prevention including their surveillance. Before joining the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention & Management, he worked in a range of different organisations, such as: large governmental research institutes (the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US) inter-governmental institutions (World Health Organisation (WHO)) private research institutions (International Diabetes Institute (IDI) Melbourne) academia (University of Bern, Monash and Deakin University, and most recently University of Copenhagen).
Research Interest
His specific technical knowledge covers the fields of: clinical trials health services epidemiology health policy health promotion disease control global health education community-based obesity and diabetes prevention.
Biography
Professor Li Ming Wen graduated from the Second Military Medical University (SMMU), Shanghai, China in 1985. After migrating to Australia, in 1996, He obtained Master of Medicine and PhD degrees from Sydney Medical School, the University of Sydney. Since 2006, Prof Wen has received > $2 million in peer-reviewed national and international competitive grants. He has published over 70 peer reviewed papers in high impact journals including Lancet, BMJ, JAMA Pediatrics and IJO. He has been a Research and Evaluation Program Manager in the Health Promotion Service of Sydney Local Health District, Australia, since 2000. In this role he is also affiliated with Shanghai 10th People’s Hospital, University of Tongji, and Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. His current research interests are in childhood obesity, physical activity, nutrition, active transport with specific expertise in the evaluation of health promotion initiatives.
